SNC Plant Growth Technology Featured in Major Motion Picture, ‘Ad Astra’

SPARKS, Nev., September 18, 2019 – Technology that helps plants grow in space developed by Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC), the global aerospace and national security leader owned by Chairwoman and President Eren Ozmen and CEO Fatih Ozmen, is featured in the major motion picture, “Ad Astra.”

“Ad Astra” tells the story of an astronaut traveling through the solar system in search of his missing father.

“We are thrilled that our innovative space technology for space is highlighted in a new feature film,” said SNC owner and President, Eren Ozmen. “It’s a testament to the excitement that space generates among mainstream audiences and we’re proud to deliver technology that supports that popular enthusiasm.” SNC’s products, including its Dream Chaser® spacecraft, known as “America’s spaceplane,” have been featured in blockbuster movies including “The Martian” starring Matt Damon, and “The Space Between Us.”

SNC’s advanced technology engineers from the Propulsion and Environmental Systems business unit in Madison, Wisconsin develop innovative space technologies for human sustainability for long and short duration space missions, including food production as part of future advanced life support systems.

The technology portrayed in the film to grow fresh food for the astronaut as he travels through deep space is derived from NASA’s VEGGIE system. SNC is maturing multiple spaceflight plant growth technologies called Astro Garden® systems, including their VEGGIE and Advanced Plant Habitat systems, which are continually operated by NASA on the International Space Station. SNC continues its work to enable and support long duration human space travel to the moon and beyond.

The movie, produced by New Regency Productions, is out in theaters on September 19th.
