PRESS RELEASE

SNC and US Air Force Begin Flight Test Activities at Dayton’s Aviation Innovation & Technology Center

  • SNC announces the beginning of flight and ground testing activities under the Survivable Airborne Operations Center contract.

  • Early risk reduction testing will be used to ensure on-time delivery of new aircraft to the USAF.

  • SAOC is a highly specialized aircraft trusted by the President and other national security leaders to ensure critical airborne command, control and communication during national emergencies.

DAYTON, OHIO (September 3, 2025) – SNC, the global aerospace and national security company, has commenced early risk reduction flight testing under the US Air Force’s Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC) contract. On August 7, the first company-led flight occurred as part of the SAOC Engineering & Manufacturing Development effort delivering next-generation airborne command and control capabilities. These early test flights will reduce development risk to the program to ensure on-time delivery of the modernized E-4C aircraft.

Flight and ground testing will continue into 2026 to establish the technical design baseline. Activities will primarily occur in Dayton, Ohio and Wichita, Kansas. Accomplishing these test activities early in the developmental program was a distinguishing aspect of SNC’s innovative approach to manage risk and avoid problems from arising later in the schedule.

Over the past year, SNC has completed all planned milestones under the SAOC program. Just six weeks after contract award, in June 2024, SNC welcomed the first 747-8i to the AITC at Dayton International Airport. Four months later, in October 2024, SNC celebrated the opening of a second state-of-the-art hangar while simultaneously breaking ground on two additional hangars. The additional hangars are proceeding ahead of schedule, with the next facility opening for operations in October 2025 and more than 650,000 square feet supporting the USAF there by early 2026. This expansion underscores SNC’s commitment to investing early in our capabilities and scaling the Enterprise to meet the needs of the SAOC program. Three additional 747-8i have been delivered to SNC.
