SNC’s RAPCON-X™ Aerial ISR Jet is Here

First of two Bombardier Global 6500 jets arrive in Maryland for transformation

HAGERSTOWN, Md., (Nov. 3, 2022) – The first of two commercial derivative aircraft (CDA) has arrived at Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) for transformation into the company’s new, rapidly configurable, aerial intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (AISR) platform, RAPCON-X.

SNC Senior Director of Business Development Tim Harper and Senior Vice President of Programs Steve Clark arrived onsite to receive the Bombardier Global 6500 jet from Bombardier Director of Specialized Mission Aircraft Michael Calderon. Work commenced immediately on the first aircraft, followed by receipt of the second jet in mid-December.

Both aircraft are expected to enter service at the end of 2023 and will create an operational envelope that enhances survivability and the capacity to operate in peer- near-peer environments.

SNC has designed RAPCON-X with a digital-first approach using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). This significantly reduces the time required to integrate new systems and add capabilities, without a complete aircraft redesign. RAPCON-X is easily reconfigurable based on specific mission needs and allows the customer to utilize a variety of mission equipment. This includes its unique SNC TRAX® software, which creates interoperability among disparate systems, operationalizing data across the spectrum for full domain awareness and cooperation. It also includes the Next-Generation Mission System and signal intelligence (SIGINT) products for multi-domain operations.
