SPARKS, Nev., February 17, 2017 – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has once again recognized Sierra Nevada Corporation’s (SNC) aviation maintenance technicians for outstanding commitment to quality, knowledge and safety with its highest award of excellence, the “Diamond Award.” Two of SNC’s six business areas have earned the prestigious prize – marking a seventh award for the Integrated Mission Systems (IMS) team and six consecutive Diamond Awards for the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) group.
“Our aviation technicians are some of the most talented in the industry and this prestigious award is a testament to their expertise and attention to detail,” said Tim Owings, corporate vice president of SNC’s IMS business area. “SNC leadership is grateful for their unwavering commitment to upholding the FAA’s most rigorous standards of excellence. It’s a benefit not only to the company, but to each and every one of our customers who trust us with their lives."
Launched in 1991, the Aviation Maintenance Technician Awards provide incentives for maintenance technicians to participate in ongoing training programs individually or through employer programs. Individuals and companies compete to earn one of five award levels with the Diamond Award signifying the highest honor. It requires that 100 percent of a company’s eligible employees earn individual AMT awards during the calendar year. All 136 of SNC’s eligible employees completed all of the individually required aviation maintenance training hours during 2016 to qualify for the award.
“Our employees’ diligent participation in these extensive training programs helps SNC ensure that we deliver only the highest quality products and services to our customers,” said Jon Burgoyne, corporate vice president of SNC’s ISR business area. “If even one participant had missed a training requirement by one hour, SNC’s eligibility for this award would have been eliminated. I want to thank all 136 of our maintenance technicians for their dedication and commitment. This is the kind of hard work that has helped grow SNC’s aircraft operations into the record-setting system it is today. ”
SNC’s Diamond Awards come on the heels of its recent perfect FAA audit scores, marking five consecutive years without a single FAA finding, observation or letter of correction for its Parts Manufacturer Approval, Repair Station and Designee systems – a major feat in the aviation field.
The company, which began its work in aviation systems more than 50 years ago, is a leading prime manned and unmanned aircraft systems integrator for innovative, high-performance ISR systems. The company designs, engineers, builds, integrates, tests and modifies low-cost, turn-key systems, sustaining more than 7,300,000 multi-mission/multi-intelligence flight hours for multiple aircraft platforms world-wide.
