Lead Without Limits: Community Movers & Shakers Series

Anna ByerMeet Anna B! Anna joined SNC in 2022 and is currently a senior software quality engineer. In fact, she is the only software quality engineer in our IAS business area, and she works with program leads, developers and Quality Assurance (QA) test engineers to create, modify and apply principles to software development with the use of system products and processes. Anna was born and raised in the US military as a proud Navy Brat and a huge reason she decided to come to SNC.

She also reviews requirement specifications, design documents, source codes, test plans and procedures, materials, tools, techniques, methodologies, and traceability within a software program. If that all sounds complex, Anna agrees!

“My day-to-day changes almost every day. As SNC continues to expand on the software side, it’s my job to ensure that the development team is meeting our industry requirements but also the standards of third-party military organizations.”

Anna was asked to help create a new department that had not previously existed. Being able to contribute her experience and knowledge of software development, as well as her experience in the aviation community makes her a key player at SNC.

Anna leverages her expertise in the aviation sector to position SNC as a disruptor in the industry, while also using her experience to contribute to the Denver community.

“I have been in aviation most of my life, and wanted a way to give back to the Denver aviation community that has been a large part of my life for the last 20 years. Having grown up around the industry, and married to a commercial pilot, I knew I had a lot of knowledge to offer up-and-coming pilots and aviation engineers.”

Seven years ago, Anna got involved with the Denver chapter of Women in Aviation, an organization that’s been around for 35 years, and promotes many aspects of aviation and aerospace through community outreach and education.

In 2019, Anna became the Membership chair and currently serves as the chapter President, which has seen a 400% increase in members since her tenure. The group has also expanded donations and provide scholarships and conduct outreach opportunities to local schools and at aviation events.

The Denver Mile High Chapter of Women in Aviation is one of the largest in the country. This organization is important for inspiring women and girls to pursue careers in Aviation and Aerospace that is so prevalent in Colorado,” said Anna. “Colorado has the nation’s second-largest aerospace economy and ranks number 1 for private aerospace employment. To be able to mentor the next generation in these industries is beyond fulfilling.

When Anna isn’t busy at SNC or flying a plane, she’s traveling the world...literally! She just returned from a trip to Antarctica in February, where she successfully completed her goal of visiting all seven continents!

As to the best piece of advice Anna’s ever received, well, it’s something she embodies in all aspects of her life. “The road was carved out by those that came before me, but it is up to me to pave it for others to follow after.” Way to go, Anna! Thanks for all your contributions at SNC and to your community!
