We are seeking a Systems Engineer with a Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or a related Engineering field and at least 3 years of relevant experience. What to look forward to: As a Systems and DevOps Engineer your goal will be to manage cloud resources, establish and maintain a continuous deployment process, automate the scheduling of jobs, develop scripts that monitor performance and report errors, and develop strategies for automating the management and growth of the system. This position requires working with technical leads, data scientists and project managers in a Scrum-based Agile environment. This position is based in SNC’s Herndon, Virginia offices.

Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) is making a highly scalable computing system to quickly respond to complex and changing requirements. The system resides in the cloud and is composed of cutting-edge open source technologies and frameworks. We are looking for an enthusiastic Systems and DevOps Engineer who will join our team and help operationalize, automate, and maintain the development of the system.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create, configure, implement, document and maintain a continuous deployment system.

  • Manage and automate the system’s cloud-based resources.

  • Provide for upgrading and patching system components and monitoring system health.

  • Help identify the best cloud-based architectures for the system.

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's degree in System Engineering or related Engineering discipline and typically 3 or more years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Strong knowledge of AWS and/or other cloud providers.

  • Python development experience.

  • Experience with one of the configuration management frameworks (Chef, Puppet, Ansible)

  • Other scripting language experience (Perl, JavaScript, Bash)

  • Proficiency in distributed computing principles.

  • Experience integrating data from multiple data sources.

  • Experience managing  NoSQL databases (MongoDB, HBase, Cassandra, ElasticSearch).

  • Knowledge with messaging systems (AWS SQS, Kafka or RabbitMQ)

Preferred:

  • Experience with requirements management and system modelling tools, such as DOORS, Rhapsody, NoMagic, MATLAB

  • Knowledgeable of industry standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to requirements management, Model Based System Engineering (MBSE), verification and validation (V&V)

  • Experienced or certified in INCOSE standards

  • Prior experience in the Aerospace and Defense Industry

  • Previous experience leading baseline definition and maturation in a complex development setting, including the use of high impact trade studies and other measures

  • Establishing and tracking key Technical Performance Measurements (TPM)

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance is required Learn more about the background check process for Security Clearances
