SNC is searching for a Principal Systems Engineer (RF) to work on a team of mechanical and electrical engineers to develop and integrate new capabilities on satellites. The Systems Engineer will work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment where SNC customers expect open communication and strong technical solutions to meet their mission requirements and operations. The preferred candidate will have a mix of space system development, payload design, development and test, and payload integration experience on space or near-space platforms. The preferred candidate will have excellent interpersonal, technical management, team leadership, and communication skills. Candidates must have an existing Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret (TS) security clearance.

Job Description Summary:

The Principal Systems Engineer (RF) reports to the Principal Systems Engineer (Spacecraft Lead Engineer) on the programs he/she is assigned and leads the team’s RF design and analysis activities. The Systems Engineer is the RF technical lead of the team and is the Program Manager’s RF technical liaison to the team and the customer. Additionally the Systems Engineer is the Control Account Manager (CAM) for all RF systems and responsible for leading some of the programs Integrated Product Team (IPT) leads. The Systems Engineer is responsible for the decomposition of customer’s technical requirements, generation of specifications, trade studies, statements of work, control documents, plans, and reports in support of the program across its lifecycle. The Systems Engineer is responsible for the RF analysis function, including showing predicted mission performance against requirements. The Systems Engineer supports programs from the early phases of program capture through integration and test, as well as launch and operations. The Systems Engineer should have intimate knowledge of RF product technology and a good working knowledge of the associated engineering disciplines.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Lead the RF design and analysis efforts on spacecraft baselines to meet technical, schedule and cost requirements on multiple programs and proposals simultaneously
  • Work with teams of subsystem engineers (mechanical & electrical) in decomposition of customers’ technical requirements, generation of specifications, statements of work, control documents, plans, and reports in support of programs across their lifecycle
  • Lead program efforts to interpret RF objectives, generate requirements, and decompose them into hardware and subsystem requirements and specifications
  • Conduct engineering activities to develop spacecraft baselines to meet technical requirements and support business development
  • Conduct trade studies on RF systems involving signal parameterization, collection strategies, sensitivity/processing analyses, and geolocation analyses to meet requirements
  • Lead RF signals collection/processing analysis mission designs, detailed payload and payload interface designs and RF systems performance analysis
  • Lead analysis efforts showing anticipated and measured performance against mission level requirements
  • Work closely with payload providers to ensure their systems meet technical, schedule and cost requirements
  • Lead Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) activities and manage some action items to closure
  • Work as part of a team to mature designs and specifications and resolve issues that arise during a program’s lifecycle
  • Prepare material for and conduct periodic peer, internal, and customer design reviews
  • Ensure that all specifications, designs, and developments adhere to SNC configuration management processes

  • Follow SNC policies, procedures, and work instructions for all technical activities
  • Punctuality to work each day and prepared to work scheduled work hours

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for thoughtful adherence to all SNC Policies, Procedures, and Compliance regulations (internal and external)
  • Responsible for timely execution of all personnel-related activities such as Time Sheet completion, Performance Evaluations, Salary Reviews, Succession Planning, etc.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Position requires a BS degree in electrical engineering, MS degree in electrical engineering preferred
  • Requires 14+ years of previous experience in spacecraft RF mission design/analysis. Experience through mission operations is desirable
  • Requires strong knowledge of RF systems development, integration and test
  • Experience in an engineer role on spacecraft systems with US Government customers preferred
  • Possession of a current DoD Top Secret (TS) security clearance is required
  • Requires the ability to rapidly work with minimal supervision on programs leading both small and large engineering teams
