Colonel Paul R. Plemmons, USA, Retired, is the corporate vice president and business lead for Sierra Nevada Corporation’s Electronic Warfare & Range Instrumentation (EWR) business area.
During his three-plus decades of active service in the U.S. Army, Col. Plemmons gained invaluable experience in the EWR field as commander of the 146th Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Detachment at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, and the 191st Ordnance Battalion (Ammunition) in Miesau, Germany. In addition, he served as the first Officer-in-Charge of the Captured Enemy Ammunition Mission for the Combined Joint Task Force-7 in Baghdad, Iraq, the largest mission of its kind since WW II, and during his command of Combined Joint Task Force Troy became the moving force behind the effort to exercise command and control of specialized, counter-improvised explosive device (IED) forces, synchronizing IED information collection and development, and pursuit of materiel solutions to address and defeat the IED threat.
Col. Plemmons’ extensive knowledge surrounding Counter-IED and EOD is now put to work developing Counter Radio-Controlled IED (RCIED) Electronic Warfare (CREW) tools for nearly all branches of the military. SNC’s software-definable EWR systems support man-portable, vehicular, fixed-site and airborne applications, collectively providing a solid foundation for networked, light-weight and industry-leading Size, Weight and Power EWR solutions.
Plemmons began his military career in 1972 before enrolling at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He has also earned a master’s degree in Administration from Central Michigan University as well as a master’s degree in security and strategic studies from the United States Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Col. Plemmons’ personal awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (2 OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, Combat Action Badge and Master Explosive Ordnance Disposal Badge. He also holds the Ordnance Corps Samuel L. Sharpe Award and the Combat Engineer De Fluery Award (Bronze). Plemmons was inducted into the United States Army Ordnance Corps Hall of fame in 2013.
