Tactical Automatic Landing System (TALS)
TALS provides a day/night, all-weather, automatic landing and takeoff capabilities for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) operating in the tactical or fixed-base land environments. TALS is capable of interfacing with virtually any UAV; providing automatic landing capability ranging from a simple position sensor for air-derived guidance systems to a fully integrated, ground-derived air vehicle controller. TALS consists of two primary components: a ground-based radar track subsystem (TS) and an air vehicle-mounted airborne transponder subsystem (AS).
The TALS is currently in service with the United States Army providing automatic landing capability to the Tactical UAS System. TALS can also provide an automatic take-off capability for fixed or rotary wing UAVs. TALS is a member of the SNC UAV Common Automatic Recovery System (UCARS) product line that has been integrated to perform automatic take-off and/or landing operations on numerous different UAVS.
