Bird Detection Radar (BIRDAR™)

SNC has designed and demonstrated a solid state millimeter-wave radar uniquely designed to detect birds that present potentially hazardous situations to departing and landing aircraft.

BIRDAR Features:

• Detects flocks of large birds at ranges up to 3 miles
• All weather, day-night operation
• No impact on normal airport operating equipment (e.g., ILS & radio communications)
• Bird detection locations easily communicated to FAA operations or aircraft personnel
• High reliability, low power consumption solid state output power module
• Easily deployable – less than 25 pounds
• Demonstrated at DFW and ORD airports
