Sierra Nevada Corporation Awarded Contract to Aide Pilots in Degraded Visual Environments

SPARKS, Nev. , November 06, 2013 – Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) was awarded a Master Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract from the United States Special Operations Command Technology Applications Contracting Office for a Degraded Visual Environment Pilotage System (DVEPS). SNC’s DVEPS program allows pilots to see through degraded environments such as brownout, smoke, sand, snow and fog conditions. The technology increases aircrew visibility of obstacles including people, power lines, ditches, mountains, rocks, and other obstacles in order to reduce loss of life and equipment.

The IDIQ contract contains multiple phases including Concept Demonstration, Integrated System Development/Demonstration, Low Rate Production and Qualification Testing. The contract will begin with the initial Concept Demonstration phase in October 2013.

“SNC is very pleased to have been selected for this important program that will help increase our military aircrew’s safety and operational capability to fulfill their missions throughout the world. We look forward to demonstrating our DVEPS solution,” said Greg Cox, corporate vice president for SNC’s Communication, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management business area.
