SPARKS, Nev., September 08, 2016 – Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) today announced a strategic addition to its Washington, D.C. office, naming Michael Orr as Senior Director for Government Affairs. Prior to joining SNC, Orr served as a career Marine Corps Officer with over 3,800 hours in the F/A-18 Hornet and V-22 Osprey, and most recently serving as USMC Chair at the National War College in Washington, D.C. He will lead SNC’s engagement with the Marine Corps as well as other government agencies.

Over more than 50 years, SNC has earned a reputation for delivering customer-focused, high-tech solutions and systems integration across DOD, on time and under budget. SNC offers innovative solutions for some of the military’s most pressing challenges. Advanced electronic warfare systems, cutting edge digital information sharing, and degraded visual environment flight systems will save lives and dramatically increase capability.

Orr remarked, “I'm excited about helping SNC provide the latest technology to Americans who need it most."

SNC continues to attract top talent to support its broad commercial and government solutions. Most recently, SNC was awarded a share of NASA’s Commercial Resupply Services 2 contract to service the International Space Station using SNC’s own space shuttle, the Dream Chaser® spacecraft.

Orr’s career has been marked by strong leadership and relationships across disciplines and agencies. While Commanding Officer of VMFA-251, the Thunderbolts completed two combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan aboard USS Enterprise as part of Carrier Air Wing ONE. As Commander of the Joint Warfare Analysis Center, Orr led over 600 scientists, engineers, military, and interagency professionals working on unconventional approaches to a wide variety of national security challenges. He was responsible for operational testing of all Marine Corps aviation platforms while Commander of Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron 22; he led the squadron in conducting experimentation and concept development for all new USMC aviation initiatives.
